11, 2000: Kurfew Helps Launch JOEY Magazine
On
March 11th, lots of cute boys posed in lots of cute (and free) JOEY T-shirts
as Kurfew helped launch JOEY Magazine, the new glossy publication for gay youth.
Jeff's digital camera got a rest for the night, as the trusty Canon SLR was
hauled around to get the image quality required for the next edition of the
magazine, in which details of the launch party will be published along with
photographs of Kurfew boys in Joey gear!
March 4, 2000: HBO Original Movie Release
March 4th was a crowded night, as Spring Breakers decided to come out in force.
We were amazed at how many girls came up to us screaming "I'm a lesbian!" to
get hold of one of dozens of T-shirt giveaways courtesy of HBO. HBO was promoting
their original movie, "if these walls could talk 2" that aired on Sunday. Feb.
26th was a party for Instinct Magazine, and was our break between the two day
Gay and Lesbian Expo at the Jacob Javits Center (of which Kurfew was the official
entertainment sponsor). Feb. 19th brought Ernest Kohl to Kurfew, singing his
club remix of "Only You," and his own club hits along with the choreographed
dance routines of his three energetic dancers.
February
12, 2000: "The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress"
On Feb. 12th, I.M.T. performed their underground hit, "The Devil Made Me Buy
This Dress," as they handed out lots of copies of their new CD, appropriately
called, "The Devil Made Me Buy This CD." Mr. Devil, left, prodded lead singer
Jaime Montalvo during the performance (perhaps wearing the $559 dress targeted
in the song).
February
5, 2000: "Pink Party"
Kurfew's first annual "Pink Party" on February 5th, brought
out as many colorful people as shades of pink in honor of Kurfew host Yoni's
21st birthday.
Nightlife
personalities Amanda LePore, a Rolling Stone magazine cover model, and
Sophia LeMar, performed wacy magic acts where they pulled pink and multicolor
strings out of various parts of their bodies. See the pics
page for more.
January
22, 2000: Apollo GT
The beautiful male artwork of Apollo GT was exhibited in the hallway and Chandelier
Room of Kurfew on January 22nd. Later the team handed out autographed
miniature samples of his prized artwork. Above, founder Giang Tran horses around
with his friend in front of several of his mounted works.
January
15, 2000: "I Have a Dream" Party
Kurfew's "I Have a Dream" party, on January 15th, honored Martin Luther King,
Jr. pulled in a full house. Some recognized that the sight of people
of all racial backgrounds and sexual orientations dancing and partying together
was a wonderful tribute. The performances, led by Peppermint Gummybear,
were matched to songs of super-successful African American entertainers.
Here are Peppermint, Sydney,
Koko and Ms. "move outta my way" Alexis strutting their stuff! In the
spirit of tolerance, even the "blindingly white" BeBe was given a chance
to give the performance of her life to honor this special day.
January 8, 2000: Welcome Back Kids
January 8th had the college kids rapidly coming back to town as evidenced by
our hot crowded party. Trinitey, Peppermint Gummybear and BeBe take the
position as they perform to "Like a Prayer." They were all praying for hot new
boyfriends, we're told. We're also told that the "girls" chose "Like a
Prayer" over "Like a Virgin" because the "Virgin" performance would have been
far too much of a reality stretch for these "girls." Ruthie, known from
MTV's "The Real World," made an appearance, and she posed with Jeff in the Kenny
Scharf room.
It was only after Jeff handed over some eagerly accepted drink passes that he
was reminded/scolded about why she had been kicked out of the "Real World" house.
In any event, Ruthie told us she was having a blast! Ruthie is shown "kissing"
her favorite artist on our pics page.
