Welcome
to the Kurfew Chat Room! Below you'll find a basic Java chat room that
you can use to find others to plan your trip to Kurfew, talk about your experiences
at Kurfew, or just chat with other young, gay guys and girls from New York City
and around the country. We're also programming a unique chat room that
will be announced in the near future. If you have any recommendations
for improving the Kurfew Chat, drop us an email at chat@kurfew.com.

Your
Browser must be Java-enabled. If the chat room is not working properly,
make sure that you've enabled JavaScript in your Browser's preferences. The
chat will be slower during periods of peak web traffic.
(1) To
begin, click on the CONNECT button in the upper left-hand corner of the
chat window below. If you do not see this button yet, give it some time.
It may take a couple of minutes for the Java applet to load.
(2) Next
you'll be prompted to enter a nickname. You can use something descriptive
like Hot Mark 19 or Jersey Bi Boy, but just remember to keep it clean!
(3) Move
your mouse over the buttons and read the descriptions in the lower, left-hand
corner of your browser. (4) If
someone is being particularly offensive or promoting illegal activity, make
a note of his unique IP address by highlighting his name in the right-hand window,
clicking the right mouse button and choosing GET IDENTITY. You can also
use the same technique to ignore that individual.
(5) If
the main KurfewNYC room is full, you can enter the name of a new room, such
as Kurfew2. You can get a list of current chat rooms by clicking on ROOM
LIST. Keep Kurfew in the name of any new chat room to differentiate
from chat rooms of other (non-gay) web sites that may be listed. If the
room is empty, you can "wait" in the room until others drop by so that they
know you're there! (6) To
the right of the text input line, you'll notice four buttons for SAY
(balloon), WHISPER (light balloon), THINK (cloud puffs) and ACTION.
You can type your text and click on one of the buttons for the appropriate declaration.
SAY is the standard, placing "yourname says:" before your phrase.
WHISPER is used by highlighting another nickname. Whatever you WHISPER
is shown only to the person whose nickname you've highlighted. THINK
precedes your statement with "yourname thinks," while ACTION places the
text you type immediately after your name. (7) For
some of you accessing this site through AOL, the buttons may not appear at all...while
we're looking into fixing this, you can still use the chat room by moving the
cursor around and viewing the button descriptions that appear in the lower,
left-hand corner of your browser. Or, use Netscape Navigator.
(8) Have
fun. In only a few minutes you'll get the hang of the Kurfew Chat Room!
(9) When
you're done, click on DISCONNECT!
