How do I mend his angry heart? (Dazed N. Confused)
It's unfortunate that many gay and bi students still experience intense anti-gay stigmatism, but it's also a fact of life in most of America. It's understandable that your boyfriend of 1-week might not have been prepared to "come out" and felt that you betrayed his confidence by outing him without his permission. Outing is, of course, a very controversial issue for people of all ages. And although you saw it as a desire to express your happiness over your relationship, you obviously did not consider the feelings of your boyfriend, whom you obviously knew was not out to others.
If being labeled "gay" is too much for this boy to bear, he may well want to avoid you at all costs to refute your outing of him. So that might be what's happening. Or, perhaps he was never seriously into you to begin with...the "outing" just provided the convenient excuse he needed to break it off.
In any event, Anthony's advice is on the mark about apologizing and hoping he has some lingering feelings for you that might overcome the negative outing episode. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
