Should my parents be reading my emails??? (darkelder666)
You don't mention your age and certainly age will have much to do with the appropriateness of your parents' desire to read your email.
What's unfortunate is that they've decided they want to read your personal email only AFTER you declare that you're gay. So they're basically telling you that they're on the "lookout" for gay related email that they may disapprove of.
You have to live with your parents which means living under their rules. The best solution would be to let them know that you feel your privacy is being violated, and negotiate with them to allow your emails to remain private and personal. Perhaps if you're able to allay their fears about who you might potentially meet, or what you might potentially do, they'd be more inclined to give you this privacy. At the very least, get them to agree to let your email remain private by the time you reach a certain age...and again, that age is going to be dependent upon the overprotectiveness of your parents.
Many people set up private hotmail or yahoo accounts that they can check via the internet to keep mail away from prying eyes. I would much prefer to hear that you negoatiate an arrangement with your parents than have to do something behind their backs. However, should they be unrelenting in giving you email privacy, this would obviously be an option.
