Travis,

You're the one who wants to find out, so you'll have to begin throwing out some of the clues.

Read my other advice to those trying to figure out their friends.

If you haven't yet had any hints that he might be gay, remember to proceed with caution...like it or not, 90% of boys are straight. And even if he is gay or bi, there's always the possibility that you aren't his type! Or, that he isn't ready for a relationship, or to expose his sexual interests. If he hasn't shown you any indication of interest, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

But if you have your valid suspicions, little things like sitting a bit too close to him, offering him a back massage, touching his arm/leg with yours when you're sitting next to each other, etc. can give you an opportunity to gauge his reaction and/or interest. If he's done similar things to you in the past, well they were either accidental (hehe), or he was trying to gauge YOUR reaction.

If he responds positively to some of the small tests, then move on to bigger ones, such as bringing up sexuality in a related discussion (not out of the blue!) If, however, he responds negatively (e.g. he pulls away, he acts upset/confused, etc.) you'll probably need to back off if you want to maintain your friendship.
