I think Anthony's comments are all valid. I would just add the following:
(1) Your friend may have had homosexual experiences in the past, but he might not be attracted to you...so be prepared for that, and don't assume he's going to jump into bed with you just because you're suddenly interested.
(2) If you do indeed have an experience with your friend, the nature of your relationship may change...perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse. If one or the other develops feelings beyond mere sexual attraction that's not reciprocated, the friendship could be seriously jeaopordized...so definitely look before you leap and
