If you are attracted to this guy I see no reason not to go for it. You may learn something very important about yourself. As far as bringing it up to him, just be honest. Tell him that you have always considered yourself straight, but that after listening to his experiences your curiosity has been piqued. Let him take it from there, don't push yourself on him, but let him know that you would be potentially interested in hooking up with him. Don't worry about anal sex, there are many other things you can do and I am sure he will understand if you aren't really into that. Good Luck!
