It's a sad world we live in when one must choose home schooling to avoid dealing with homophobia. I feel for you. In any event, congratulations for taking matters into your own hands. While you certainly will lose out on the interaction and other social skill benefits, who would really want to deal with evil, small-minded homophobes anyway???

As far as wondering how/why people assume you are gay? Believe it or not, there are actually straight males who are effeminate and get labeled as gay in their schools. They suffer all of the same abuse as their gay counterparts. People, and especially young high-schoolers, love to try to find SOMETHING to tear somebody apart. Rather than running away from your orientation, I think you should embrace it. You've removed yourself from school for a reason, so now continue to stand up for yourself and maybe teach the world a lesson or two! Changing yourself to try to please other's expectations means you've only given up and given in to the "mean people." I think college will prove to be a bright new environment for you, so continue focusing on your education, and get yourself into a school known for its tolerance and open-mindedness.
