In Answer To: Why the bible states GAY is Wrong!! (Pentecostal 2000)

First of all...it's unfortunate that my answer will fall on deaf ears. I can only hope that you gain the strength, tolerance and insight to accept youself for who you are, before too much of your life passes you by. I am most saddened by stories of extremely religious people who finally open up to their true sexual orientation after decades of hiding.

One of the things I cherish about being gay, is that it has given me the insight to question and challenge that which many people simply assume to be the truth. This includes religious beliefs and interpretations.

The mere existence of homosexuality, and the very fact that you YOURSELF are gay, should be enough to make you question the anti-gay beliefs held by certain religious groups. Furthermore, even taken at it's word in your particular bible, the term "abdomination" as applied to homosexuality is also used to refer to eating shellfish and to the mixing of certain fabrics. I certainly don't hear Christian leaders lashing out about these activities. However, gay-bashing has become a favorite topic of choice among certain religious leaders, and this has led many to disproportionately judge the "sinfulness" of homosexuality.

Whether you will believe it or not, the interpretation of the Bible changes over time. The Bible has been used in the past to justify slavery, the oppression of women, the inferiority of certain ethnic groups, the opposition to intermarriage between races, animal sacrafice, etc. Clearly, opinions have changed on all of these issues. And before long, the Bible will no longer viewed as opposing homosexuality. Mark my words. Science has moved far and fast in demonstrating the genetic component of homosexuality, the existence of homosexuality throughout the animal kingdom, and the benefits of homosexuality in past and present cultures that have fully and naturally integrated it into their societies.

I'll pray that you have the courage to keep an open mind and to not accept everything that is force fed into your head as the actual word of God.
