Hey Chris...

Your situation is like many in which a homophobic family member decides to make your life miserable. In all likelihood, your brother would be picking on something else about you if you were you not gay, but certainly it's difficult enough being gay.

It's unfortunate that your parents do not come to your defense but again nobody is guaranteed gay-friendly parents! It probably won't help much, but if you read about some of those who've been thrown out of their houses by parents for being gay, you might realize that things could be much worse.

Your 19...you're an adult. If you're not happy in your current living arrangements, take the steps you need to take to move out on your own. If that means going away to school, figure out what that will cost you, get a job, and do it! Or perhaps you can move in with a roommate! Younger kids are dependent upon their parents and stuck with their situation, but you do have the ability to get out of yours if you so choose.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

- Jeff
