Get used to it. You can either be brave and pursue a friendship...and hopefully more...or you can run away scared and forever wondering what might have been.

So take a chance...invite him out to a movie, or to dinner. Pursue a friendship first, and let things evolve naturally. If he's at all interested in you, he'll take up the offer, or at least let you know that he's considering it.

And if he outright rejects you??? At least you tried. You'll feel better with a rejection, knowing that you did what you could, rather than forever wondering "what if???"
