First of all, the fact that your friend is a religious Christian has no impact on whether he is gay or not. It may impact whether or not he would ACKNOWLEDGE that he's gay, but religious beliefs don't and can't affect sexual orientation.

You should ask the question: How important is it that your friend know? When you come out to someone with conservative and unbending religious beliefs, you may invite recriminations and arguments so decide if this is what you want. On the other hand, you might just happen to inspire the type of open-mindedness in your friend that helps make tolerant and super-cool people. Just keep in mind you can't control which way your freind goes.
