the relationship you enjoy with your friend, whether he is straight, bi, or whatever, sounds great even if it does not progress beyond playing around and hugging. It truly is difficult to tell you whether he is bi just from your description. He may simply be a straight male who is very comfortable with his sexuality. In any event, I respect you for not wanting to disrupt his relationship with his girlfriend. That's practicing good karma.

My advice: retain the friendship as you have it and enjoy what you have. If he dumps the mean girlfriend, that would be a good time to suggest you might be interested by engaging in more suggestive behavior. I'm sure you can figure out what to do. But just make sure you do it at the right time, and respect his current relationship.
