Like it or not, the kids "come with the package" just as in a heterosexual relationship. Regardless of your age, if you like your girlfriend enough, you'll figure out how to deal with the kids. I think you need to sit down with your girlfriend and negotiate an arrangement that you can both live with, if you are interested in maintaining the relationship. Living apart can be one of the options you present, but obviously this might be the first of stages that break apart your relationship. Perhaps your partner would be willing to make it clear that her children need to respect your authority as your girlfriend's partner. It might take time, but I think the two of you can hash out an arrangement that might work for both of you without weakening your relationship.
