how do i know if he is gay???

i go 2 an all boy school in jersey city and there is this 1 kid in my home room who is really cool 2 be with we hang out all the time and i kind of like him but i dont know if he is gay/bi or not..and i dont want 2 just come out and tell him that i am bi...b/c i dont know what he would do or say.and i dont what him 2 tell any1..and i dont want 2 mess up the friendship...so what sould i do????????
