Should I Have Told the TRUTH?

This has proven to be an eventful summer to day the least. I am a 16yo gay male and I recently came out to my best friend (a girl). She is more than 100% supportive and even introduced me to my boyfriend (he's wonderful!). However, I have been hanging out with this guy a lot lately and I think my mother is starting to pick up on things. Last week we were nonchalantly discussing homosexuality and she asked if I had any gay friends. I told her no and she immediately asked if my new "friend" had a girlfriend. Then again today we were talking about a neighbor of mine who likes me and my mom asked why I didn't like her. I didn't have a reason to give. Then she out of the blue asked me if I "even liked girls." I said yes. Should I have told her the truth? It crossed my mind to do so but I just know she wouldn't be able to handle it. She's joked before that if I were gay she'd need therapy. help
