Who classified you as a straight female...were you branded as well? Seriously though, you don't need to follow anyones "classifications" and I think your lover should understand this as well. Talking to her will help, let her know that while this is somewhat new for you it is no less real. Perhaps she fears that you are just "experimenting" with her. It is possible she just needs time to ensure that your feelings are true. Good Luck.
