It's a simple concept...

In Answer To: english report on gay rights (Joseph)

The argument for equal rights for gays is a simple one:

This is the United States of America where liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness are assured by our Constitution. Lesbian and gay people, as well as bisexual and transgender people, are among the last minorities that still face significant and organized opposition to equal rights!!!

Some people base their decision to discriminate against gays on their religious beliefs. But this is a flawed argument for the very reason that our Constitution also supports the concept of separation of Church and State. That means laws should NOT be defined by the so-called morals of any particular religious group but rather the common human morals that we all share: don't steal, cheat, kill, lie, treat others with respect, etc. etc.

So there's the argument for gay rights in a nutshell...Good luck with the report! There's a ton of background information you can find on the internet. I'd be happy to comment on it after you're done!
