Steve,

Whether or not your friends can accept you should be up to them, not you. If you care about your friends and feel that they care about you, you should just get right to the point. Tell them that you lied because you were scared, but now you have to tell them the truth because you need help. Although I don't know you, I suspect your friends will be supportive. In the even that they are not, it is best that you learn that now. You are not going to suddenly stop being gay, and you should never consider surrounding yourself with people who will not accept you. I think that once you come clean with your friends, you will feel 200% better. Good Luck, and let me know how it goes.
