It's great to find out that somebody you're close to is gay, esepcially when you're dealing with the issues of coming out yourself. The key at this stage is not to build up incredible expectations that might lead to disappointment. This person is likely the only gay person in your life at this time, and that's a recipe for serious emotional entanglement if you're not on your guard. Maintain the friendship first and foremost, and then take things slowly as Anthony advises in trying to move things forward.

My first gay relationship was with my best friend at college who eventually told me he was gay. But it took about A WHOLE YEAR before anything romantic actually happened between us. And it's surprising that anything even happened at all! So I wish you luck, In the best of worlds, your best friend might become your lover. But leave yourself room for other options!
