Someone once said that no third party could ever really understand the things that transpire between two people, and I believe that is true. Try to keep your advice to yourself unless it is solicited...If you feel that this ex is interfering with your current relationship than you should address those issues only. Let your new flame handle his personal relationship with his ex himself. I know you feel like you have been there before and can spare him a lot of pain, but people have to learn things on their own...trust him to be a capable person and stay out of whatever is going on between the two of them.
