Is he avoiding me??

Hey guys!
K, here's my problem. I was dating this guy Brendan over the summer, and he was really cute and really fun to hang out with. We eventually broke up by the end of the summer (nothing Jerry Springer-esque or anything, it just didn't work out.) Anyway, a few months later in November, I e-mailed him about just being friends and hanging out. He said it sounded good, but it seems like he is avoiding me. I'm not stalking him or anything, but i'll call up once in a while and say "I'm going to a movie, wanna come?" Just today I asked him if he wanted to go x-mas shopping, and he said fine, but then called me up and said he was going w/sum1 else and hung up...so how do I ask if he is avoiding me or not? Maybe he wants to chill and he is just busy, I don't know..but I really would like to find out. Thanx! Happy Holidays!!
