A promise is a promise, but it's more important to make sure your parents are going to react OK...you don't want to get a million restrictions put on you the moment you've found someone you really like!!! So before anything else, reconsider whether the time is right to come out to your parents. If you feel so driven to do it, my advice would be to proceed slowly. Test the waters with some pro-gay comments and work it from there. If you get the sense your parents are mature enough to deal with and accept you for who you are, then go for it!
