How do I know if he's gay???

Dear Dave,
How are things? Well my problem is that I have the biggest crush on this kid in my school,but the only thing is I have no clue if he is gay or not. And I would go up to him and ask "Are you gay?." But the only problem is if he says no then he would know my secret and possibly tell everyone that I am gay and you know what would happen. So basically I'm asking if you could tell me some signs to look for to notice if he is gay or not. This really would help me.
