What's The Difference Between Bi and Gay?

I have read some of your answers you gave to people and you say that when you want to know if someone is gay, you start a conversation and ask questions with the word 'gay' in it. Please give some examples of those questions. PS - what is the difference between 'gay' and 'bi'?
