Dear Dave,
I want to tell you that your courage is amazing, you completely made me feel good about myself. I had a hard time coming out. First off, I'm 17 years old, and I don't live with my parents. I first told some very close friends, and believe it or not, they managed to keep it to themselves. Eventually I found my current boyfriend, whom I love very much. The main problem was, telling my parents. When I told them, they completely flipped, sending me packing. My family is very closed-minded and racist. I've known that I'm gay almost forever, I knew I was different for as long as I can remember. But back to the point, telling a family member is the most difficult thing a teenager has to face, sadly I made a mistake with telling mine. My question is, do you have any suggestions for patching the relationship between my parents and I?Also, I wish to tell you to hang in there on your search for a boyfriend, this is going to sound corny but you're attractive and should find no troubles!!! Stand just as firm as you have been in your past, and you should find yourself a true love!
Sincerely,
Tom
