In Answer To: Am I living a lie? (SexyDude)

Dear Sexy Dude,

I do not think you are living a lie just because you are going to support groups and not telling your parents. I think that is the point of the support groups, just another step that a gay teenager is taking. I don't want you to feel like you're living a lie bevause you aren't and it is perfectly normal for you to be doing what you are without telling anyone. You are just looking out for yourself and doing what you think is safe. In the future you may come out to your parents and they would then be aware of this, but it is in no way a lie and you shouldn't feel like it is. I do the same thing just because I feel more comfortable going about it that way and I think of it as a correct way to live my life. Parents don't always have the best answers or the most tolerant thinking when it comes to sexuality. We're different because we're confronted with our own difference as a minority. So if you have any feeling that your parents might react negatively against you, it's probably better to keep things to yourself without worrying that you're living a lie.
